It’s been a long time since I’ve had a good rant, and I feel a good one brewing.
I didn’t like Chretien and I’m not much for Martin either. I’ve kept my comments on the swearing-in to myself for a little while, but I can’t hold them in any longer.
The swearing-in made me sick.
First of all, the “condensed” version of the national anthem and God Save The Queen (about 12 bars of the best of both songs thrown together) was - in my opinion - completely inappropriate. If the swearing-in of the Prime Minister of Canada is not an important enough event to warrant singing the whole song, then why don’t we just call Dubya on the phone and begin negotiations to become the 51st star? At least then we’ll have a real leader.
This “thing” that the government has for kissing Native Canadian butt makes my skin crawl. I’m all for respecting their rights and giving them equal opportunities. But what was that cleansing purification ceremony thingamajig? Is Paul Martin now a member of a Native Canadian tribe? Is this his religion? Was the so-called “Elder” who brought the tobacco to annoint him his clergy member? No? Well then is this a religion practiced by say… more than 3% of Canadians? No? Then why the heck do we bend over and kiss their butts!?!? While we’re on the subject, why did we give them our diamond mines and huge parcels of land? Are they angry with us? Not as far as I can see. Not since the Oka thing anyway. They just sit at home and complain that we do nothing for them! This in turn prompts our government to just hand them everything they ask for.
I AM SICK AND TIRED OF BEING DISCRIMINATED AGAINST BECAUSE I AM A WHITE, ENGLISH SPEAKING, GOD-FEARING CHRISTIAN JUST LIKE THE OTHER 60-80% OF CANADIANS!! WHY DO WE GET NONE OF THE REPRESENTATION OF THE GOVERNMENT WHO WE ELECT?!?
When are you going to give a tribe of white guys a diamond mine, Paul? When are you going to give us white people the same tax exemption that you give them? We took this land fair and square, and I’m all for letting the previous inhabitants live here peacefully. But give them equal opportunities, instead of carrying on the legacy of spineless Liberal leadership that your predecessor firmly entrenched in his eight years of tyranny that he earned only through voter apathy and no signifigant political talents of his own.

I understand your frustration over your government “giving things away” to a population as small as your “native canadian’s”, but try living in the U.S. as a “White Christian”. We have “African American’s” who Demand even more (I think that if they want to refer to themselves as “african” or something other than “American” first, they should leave! Want ‘em?). They want their every aspect of life handed to them by the government (the tax payers) and our elected reps do nothing to stop it either. Thank God for Republicans and our President Bush. We may have a chance, after he is re-elected next November. After all, Equal should be Equal… eh (Right).
