I have always thought cats - properly cared-for cats, who have a legitimate bond with their owners - to be just as smart, and just as loyal as dogs. Whipper - my tabby - is more loyal to me than any dog has ever been, and easily 10x more obedient. When I say “No”, it means “No”. When I say “Go”, she listens and goes. When I tell her to get up on her perch, she does it. And almost everytime I call her, she comes.
About 10 minutes ago, I felt something crawling up my neck. I thought it was a fly or something. I reached for it and found it to be a lot larger than a fly. I’m still not sure what it was, but it looked like a fly that was about the size of a beetle. It had no yellow on it, so I wasn’t too worried. It flew off into some coats and a shirt that were hanging on my office door and Whipper decided that “it must die”.
You have to believe what I said earlier. When I tell her something, she listens. Nothing makes her happier than knowing that she is pleasing me. She is truly a pet, and a smart one to boot. I told her “no” several times when she was going after the bug, but she wouldn’t listen. She chased it out of the coats, and back behind the stereo on the table behind me, and cornered it - hissing at it. I tried to remember another time that she hissed at an insect but I couldn’t. I don’t know where it went, but it got away.
The only explanation I can come up with is that she thought it attacked me. She’s usually a very mellow laid-back cat. She is sitting on her perch right now scanning the room anxiously. She is waiting for it to reappear. It won’t get a second chance. You mess with me you deal with the tabby. That’s the way it is.
