A few years ago I received a Leatherman Super Tool as a gift. I thought it was great at the time - and still do - but I admit I don’t use it as much as I used to. Today, on a whim, I ventured to the Leatherman web site to see if there was anything new and exciting - they always seem to have neat stuff - and they sure didn’t disappoint.
The Surge seems to be the most multi-faceted of the new tools, although the web site is clear in mentioning that it’s not available yet. It certainly looks huge.
I also noticed that they updated the Super Tool (the one I have) to the Super Tool 200. At casual glance I can’t really see what they changed although if I was to take a guess I would say it’s probably the blade locking mechanism. The blade locking mechanism was both the best and worst feature of the first generation Super Tool. It was great because you could apply torque to a screw without worrying about the attachment buckling, but at the same time it was a pain in the butt to have to pull out another attachment to unlock the first one.
