Everything I Need To Know I Learned From My Cat

Quote Of The Moment

An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last.

A couple of weeks ago I got one of those automated advertising messages on the phone. It was the most recent in a number of them that I’d received lately. I was pretty sure based on past business experience that this practice was illegal in Canada, so what did I do? I sent an inquiry by e-mail to the Canadian Radio and Telecommunications Commission aka the CRTC.

This is the organization that regulates and enforces radio and telecommunications law in Canada.

The short version of the response I got from them was as follows:

  • Here’s a link to a document.
  • The document will tell you how to contact your telephone service provider (in both official languages no doubt)
  • We’re too overburdened to investigate these things, so we let the phone companies take care of it. If the phone company can’t take care of it, they’ll contact us (and probably have to put up with the same nonsense).

Pass the buck to the phone company. Classic.

Another example of a fine Liberal-run government institution.
