Full Leather Jacket

How can it be that I have bought TWO new toys in the last week and not blogged about any of them.

This fella in the snazzy leather jacket is the second one. I finally got my tax return from last year last week and spent it on “the first one” but this week I got all my back GST refunds as well which was almost a third of the original refund. So I went shopping.

I’ve wanted an iPod since the Mini. I was so annoyed when they killed the Mini, because I wanted one so badly. Then when news of the scratching on the Nanos started to surface, I was really depressed, but I figured at least that means that people will start making protective cases for them.

I went to Best Buy this morning with the intention of buying a new 2 gb Nano. I got there to find the clerk stocking the shelf with a new supply of fresh units, but I was quickly distracted by a couple that were sitting in the corner with a ridiculous price tag. “What’s with them”, I asked. They were open boxes. People bought ‘em, tried ‘em, found the screens too scratchy, didn’t want to buy a case, and returned them. I asked if I could see them. She pulled all five (three black, two white) out of the display and opened the boxes on the top of the counter so I could examine each of them individually (I was blown away by that). One of the white ones hardly had any marks on it at all, so I took it, and the money I saved on the iPod, I spent on the leather case. It’s a very snug fit, and I imagine the leather will stretch over time. I hope so. It has a great belt clip on the back, which is probably something I will use a lot. Now that I have the iTunes integration I’ve been crying about for two years, I don’t know how I ever lived without it. Because REALLY, you don’t WANT “all” of your music. Do you? I have it set to synchronize my Michael McDonald playlist, my Top 50 most listened to playlist, and my Top 100 most recently added playlist. That covers pretty much all of the bases! And I can store photos in it too which is nice. My one word of advice to new iPod owners is this: When you do the firwmare update and it says “Do Not Disconnect” it’s NOT kidding! I yinged when I shoulda yanged when it was refreshing the iPod music database and ended up losing half 80% of my database (just the tag info, not the music itself). Fortunately for me, I made a music backup last week with the database. I’ve never been so happy to have a backup.

Maybe tomorrow I will tell you about Toy #1, but if you click on the iPod and look around my Flickr account, you may figure out what it is on your own.

  1. Wow - I can’t believe you bought a non-Canon. Must’ve got a good deal. ;)
