I think they’re starting to brainwash their customers now too.
Ok ok. Before I get out the asbestos underwear, I need to set a few things straight. First of all, I own a number of Sony consumer electronics products and have been very pleased with them. With singular exception, I don’t think there’s ever been a Sony product I’ve bought that I didn’t like. Second of all, I know somebody is going to be “rather irritated” when I write this. Before you start mailing me anthrax remember that I’m not naming names here, so… MAYBE I’m not talking about you. Besides. Who reads this blog who really even knows “you” exist. Nobody. So the only person you stand to be embarassed in front of is yourself. I move on.
A while ago I was talking to an acquaintance of mine. It might have been a couple months ago now. I mentioned I had recently purchased an iPod Nano. The immediate and intensely theatrical response was “OMG! DO YOU THINK I’M NUTS!?!? I DON’T NEED A NANO!!! I HAVE A PSP!!!”
Oooooookay.
So it plays mp3’s, is the size of a BRICK and they charge $249.99 for a 2 gig Memory Stick (in Canada).
I thought maybe my friend was spaced-out on some really potent stuff. I dismissed the whole thing from my mind and vowed to move on.
Two days later I ran into ANOTHER ONE. A PSP owner with the same story, and the SAME ridicule for Nano owners.
I just don’t get it.
“…and they charge $249.99 for a 2 gig Memory Stick (in Canada).”
Sounds very similar to a comment I made to a friend when I found out he bought a Sony digital camera. :-p
I’ve pretty much boycotted all of Sony’s consumer electronics that require flash media because of their insistence on using a proprietary standard and raping their customers isntead of allowing them to choose cheaper, universal foramts such as compact flash and secure digital cards from any vendor. We’re hopefully buying a DV camera sometime this year, and Sony has some great models, but more than likely, it’ll be another Canon product that ends up in my house.
