Everything I Need To Know I Learned From My Cat

Quote Of The Moment

An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last.

It seems that everybody I know who is an iPod freak owns more than one. That’s my rationalization I’m using for looking at the new line of iPods that was announced recently.

I love my Nano. I love it to bits. I use it every day. I can’t live without it. But it’s too small in capacity.

I really have to take issue with what Apple has done with the colour choices of the new Nanos. It sucks. I can understand why they did it the way they did it, but it still sucks. I’ll explain why.

The four gig Nano would be “just” big enough for my needs. Like “by a hair”. My current music collection, as it stands is 3.94 gigs. At this point in my digital life, my objective is to put everything on the iPod. I’m sick of fiddling with playlists to try and put an “acceptable subset” of my music on my current 2 gig model. I just want to put everything on there and not have to worry about “which songs” to put on it. The four gig would do that, until about April of next year. Then I’d be right back in the boat I’m in now.

The new eight gig would seem to be a logical choice. But there are two reasons I’m “not sure” about the eight gig. First of all, the only colour choice is black. I’ve got nothing against black. Hell, I love black. But of all the iPod colours, I’d really prefer to have mine in that “four gig green” that is being offered. I loved that green back in the iPod Mini days and I still love it.

The other reason I’m not sure about the eight gig model is simply this: The thirty gig iPod video is the same price. Now I realize it’s a lot bigger and bulkier, and it’s got a hard drive inside of it instead of flash memory, but face it folks - I’m not a jogger. The hard drive is not going to be subjected to any kind of shock. And the “full size” iPods are getting physically smaller. They’re a lot smaller than the earlier attempts were.

I dunno. I just dunno.

One Response to “To Pod Or Not To Pod”

  1. I’m having the same wavering! … My pink Mini’s battery died. So I’ve been having to use my cellphone for music.

I, too, saw that the 30gig is the same price as the 8gig. But I don’t really want a black iPod. I’d prefer a pink Nano, but that only comes in 4 gig. My (now dead) pink Mini was a 6gig!

For the moment, I’m thinking I’ll probably get the 30gig, just because I only have a 30 gig hd on my iBook, and less than a gig total in music, so I could definitely make use of all the extra space.

But first! First, I shall get a Nintendo Wii, and Zelda: Twilight Princess!
