I remember as a kid living in Mountain, Ontario and the only television stations we could get on our AERIAL (remember those?) were CBC 4 in Ottawa, CJOH (CTV) 13 in Ottawa, WWNY (CBS) 7 in Watertown New York, and WNPE/WNPI (PBS) in Watertown, New York. I spent a lot of time watching WNPE (now WPBS) because they were/are a PBS affiliate and had a lot of great kid’s programming. Sure as hell better than the CBC anyway. I won’t rant. Y’all know how much I love the CBC. Not.
Anyway. Because you had to get up out of your chair and turn the rotor to re-orient the antenna back in those days (yeah, we had four channels and exercised back then - THREE WHOLE DECADES BEFORE THE WII!) quite often the motivation just wasn’t there to change the channel and unless there was something on that you wanted to watch, quite often the TV would stay on “the last channel” for quite a while. I suspect that’s the reason why I watched a lot of Doctor Who as a kid. My mother will testify that show used to scare the crap out of me (that and Buck Rogers) but I watched it anyway.
In hindsight being terrified of British television seems pretty silly, but when I saw this USB hub today, I decided I have to have one. Is that cool or what?
