Ever since I moved to the Toronto area the fact that I live within 15 minutes of TWO nuclear power stations has always been something that has lurked in the back of my mind. I’m not so young that I don’t remember Five Mile Island, and I have full faith that anything the Americans screw up, we can screw up better.
So imagine my surprise when I read this article from the Calgary Sun that says Alberta is on the verge of building their first nuclear power facility. How the hell have they survived this long? Are they burning oil to make electricity? It baffles the mind.

Actually Canadian reactors have a different fail-safe mechanism that makes them inherently safer than American reactors.
