A Note About Posting

Part of the spam-prevention scheme in this new version of Wordpress is the way it handles comments, which is a little different than earlier versions.

When you go to write a comment now, it asks for the same four things as it did before. Your name - or pseudonym - your e-mail address, your web site address (optional) and the comment itself. Please note what it says beside e-mail address now: REQUIRED!

E-mail addresses are NEVER posted on the website for people to spam. The e-mail address is required now because it is the way that the website will identify you in the future. (i.e. For most intents and purposes you should use the same e-mail address for every post). When you post a comment with an unrecognized e-mail address, Wordpress holds it from being posted until I okay it. Once I okay it, all your future posts will be posted immediately. You don’t need to register. It’s not going to send e-mail to your inbox. It just wants to know who you are, and I want to know who you are. If I get obviously fake e-mail addresses, I may verify them manually.

It is important to note that previous versions would link your e-mail address to your comment if you didn’t post a web site URL. THIS VERSION DOES NOT. The only place your e-mail address will go is into the Wordpress internal database so it can authenticate you in the future. The only person who has access to that database is me and I won’t even bother to look unless there’s a problem. And I won’t sell your e-mail address either. :-)
