Since the French have just been so flipping laughable lately, I decided to launch a new blog category highlighting French stupidity. However, it requires further explanation.

Those familiar with the current generation of stand-up comics are no-doubt familiar with Bill Engvall. Bill has popularized a little comedy bit called “Here’s Your Sign” that has received a rather large following and a lot of popularity - for good reason.

Bill’s premise is that in a perfect world, stupid people should wear signs. Then you’d know not to trust them. In the comedy bit, he gets up and talks about - for example - the trucker whose rig got stuck under a low overpass. The state trooper arrived, and asked “Get stuck?” and the trucker replies “No… I was delivering this overpass and I ran outta gas. Here’s your sign.” It’s kind of reminiscent of the “Snappy Answers To Stupid Questions” books that MAD Magazine used to publish back in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Maybe they still do.

Anyway. I contemplated inducting the entire country of France (and the densely Franophone regions of Quebec) into the Amateur Stupidity Scholarships, but I decided France just had to go to the next level.

I realize my written French is pathetic, so if any of you know the language better than I do, and I translated that wrong, please let me know.

[Addendum: Besides. It's pointless to induct the French into the Amateur Stupidity Scholarships. The diploma is only in English, and none of them speak the language. We all learn French for them, but it apparently doesn't go both ways.]
