It may be too late to go back, but I sure as hell hope not.

Betanews reported this morning that Yahoo and Microsoft have announced their intentions to merge their instant messenger products.

I could not be more depressed. THIS WILL BE THE DEATH TOLL FOR MSN MESSENGER AND YAHOO MESSENGER THAT GOOGLE IS PRAYING FOR. HOW COULD THEY BE SO FRICKING STUPID!?!?

MSN is solid and essentially bulletproof. Yahoo is so bloody flakey it defies description.

I guess it depends on how they pull it off. If they’re talking about one client, it’s a totally bad idea. If they’re going to go the ICQ/AIM merger route, maybe it won’t be so bad.

I can’t see myself using one or the other. There are too many things I like too much about the two of them.
